MS-700 v1.5 EFI Kit for all stock 1.9 / 2.1 liter VW Waterboxer engines

1.8.24  v1.5 Current Lead time is 3-4 weeks.

The MS-700 kit is designed to be retro-fitted to a stock Volkswagen 1.9l or 2.1l fuel-injected, waterboxer engines, in Vanagon application. Note: 1.9 applications require some modification to use a 2.l manifold center section on a 1.9 case ... you will also need to source a 2.1l air filter housing and an idle control valve.

The MS-700 v1.5 replaces your existing Bosch “digifant” system with a modern, open source, speed-density ignition and fuel manage solution.  Unlike the Bosch solution, the MS-700 does not rely on an AFM to determine fuel deliver, a distributer and hall sensor to set spark timing or Bosch idle control electronics.

Performance improvements are immediately noticeable. The 2.1l WBXr appears to come alive from idle to 5K.  Our 2.1 test platform engine with Mansispeed 1.35:1 rockers and MS-101 injectors, delivered 117hp on an engine dynamometer.  That’s a 20% increase over the stock MV 2.1l specification.

The kit is equipped, with everything you need to complete the install.  Even better is that all the wear components are OEM off the shelf, available from your local auto parts store.  The MS-700 uses six sensors and robust open-source software to vastly improve power, drivability, reliability, efficiency, and emissions.  The wiring harness is hand assembled in the USA, assembled with OEM best practices and materials.  This includes proper harness management with Kapton tape used for branch circuit management, TESA 51036 tape as the outer covering, and AMP Bosch OEM style, crimped terminations for an engine bay application.  This piece of the kit is arguably the most important and a source of pride for MansiSpeed with each harness bench tested.

Installation is straight forward, and with basic mechanical aptitude, can be installed in 8 hours or less, depending on how much cleaning, painting or general “house keeping” you want to perform during the install.  All of the harness and connection work is contained to the original ECU location under the rear seat and the engine bay.

The MS-700 is part of a progressive, Mansispeed engine upgrade program.  The MS-700 works with Mansispeed’s  fuel injectors and 1.35 rockers and also manages the MS-800 Turbo kit with only a software upload.

The kits comes with installation instructions and easy start-up procedures.

  • Tech Note MS-700-1 Pully Seal Surface

Every kit comes with a modified crank pully, Each pull gets cleaned, prepped, machined for the trigger ring, tig wellded adn the sealling surface on the nose of the pully pollsihed.  While we work to make the pully "like new", it is not a new pully.  The paint may have a blemish or two, the paint is simply to slow down mother natures impact.  And there will be a tell tale sign of wear on the polished surface.  A ring will be seen and maybe even felt  (.002").  Be assured that even with a reasonably worn crank seal, it will not leak.  If you are concerned, go ahead and replace the seal with a new one.  We have measured the seals garter spring pressure on both new and almost worn out sealls and the wear groove presents negligible impact to the sealing ability.

    V1.5 UPDATE:

We are constanstantly making improvements to our porducts. The MS-700 is no exception.  In an effort to make installation easier, we have relocated the  MAP sensor. It was previosuly mounted to the manifold center section at a custom MansiSpeed modified mounting port. This required customers to send a manifold center section core to us as part of the core exchange. With v1.5, you no longer need to remove the manifold center section and the MAP and fuel pressure regulator components can be installed in the van.  Of course you may decide to remove and refurbish your center section with a fresh coat of paint and the componenets can then be installed on the bench too.  The Throttle Body and Pulley cores are still needed. We also will still provide new manifold runner boots as part of the kit and recommend replacement during your installation.
